At this year’s Met Gala, Kim Kardashian drew a lot of attention. The reality star’s skintight gown, which she wore to the event, has a long history. Marilyn Monroe used to own it.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! had loaned the dress to me. The institution initially refused to give it to Kim Kardashian. They advised her to lose weight initially due to the dress’s age and the delicate nature of the materials.
According to TMZ, Kim had to lose sixteen pounds in order to be able to wear the legendary gown. Ripley’s denied Kardashian after a March fitting. They granted Kim the go-ahead once she lost the additional weight.
The garment is well known for being worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Over 6,000 hand-sewn crystals are embedded throughout the gown. Kardashian was able to personalise the style.
Kim Kardashian wore the real dress to the Met Gala for photo opportunities and to walk the red carpet. She then transformed into a replica in order to save the historical treasure. The original was securely returned to Ripley’s.
Instead of a rental charge, Kim made two charitable donations on Ripley’s behalf to organisations in the Orlando, Florida region. While it didn’t appear at first that Kim would be able to pull off Marilyn’s gown, everything worked out. Kim has assisted a couple of fantastic causes along the way.
