President Mamady Doumbouya has pardoned Guinea’s national team after warning them to return the Afcon trophy or reimburse the money spent on it.

As previously reported on our site, Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya, who deposed the previous president, Alpha Clonde, issued a warning to the Guinea national team, stating that they must either win the AFCON trophy or refund the money invested in them.

In keeping with this, the Guinean national team promised their interim president that they would bring the trophy home.

On Monday, January 24, Guinea’s national team played their final match against Gambia, although they fell short of their hopes.

Unfortunately for the team, they were knocked out of the round of 16 by Gambia after losing by a goal to nil.

Mamady Doumbouya claims that his ultimatum that they return the money spent on them if they don’t present the trophy was simply to encourage them.

He did, however, reveal that the money spent on the team covered practically every step of the tournament up to the finals and that it must be returned to the state coffers as quickly as possible.
