Rodri has warned the rest of the Premier League that catching up to Manchester City and Liverpool in the future will be “tough.”
In recent seasons, City and Liverpool have been the dominant teams in England, winning the last four Premier League titles between them.
Liverpool won the Champions League last season and have advanced to the final this year, where they will face Real Madrid.
In addition to competing for the Premier League title, the two teams have won four League Cups and one FA Cup in the same time period.
Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United will all be looking to close the gap on City and Liverpool, but Rodri feels it won’t be easy.
‘I believe it will be impossible to find a team at the level of Manchester City and Liverpool in the future,’ Rodri told City’s official club website.
‘We’ll see, but I believe both teams were designed with two different kinds of play in mind, but they’re both efficient.’
‘Liverpool is without a doubt the best opponent I have ever faced.’
Rodri is set to make his 100th game for City this week, having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
Since landing in England, the 25-year-old has won the Premier League and two League Cups.
‘Playing in the Premier League is wonderful, and playing for Manchester City is even better,’ he continued. ‘We’ve demonstrated that in the competition over the last few years.’
‘Because the Premier League is so tough, winning the trophy is extremely satisfying and makes you feel proud. It’s fantastic to be playing football in this nation, where the supporters are so enthusiastic.’
City and Liverpool are tied on points at the top of the Premier League standings, but Guardiola’s side has a game in hand as they travel to Wolves on Wednesday night.
